When it comes to the history of John Cena in WWE – there has been many great rivals. From Randy Orton to Batista to Edge to Umaga to CM Punk – Cena has faced some of the best in the world.
However, it was his matches with AJ Styles that gave Cena perhaps his best matches. Over three matches, fans would see the true skills of Cena – and brought out his physical best.
AJ Styles Brought Out The Best In John Cena
While appearing on WWE’s weekly talk show ‘The Bump’ Cena would praise the skills of AJ Styles – having the following to say.
“Phenomenal is a great word to describe AJ. He’s just a wonderful, kind human being and brought out the best in me physically. We both had a different perspective on our careers and he thought if I didn’t exist, he would be where I’m at and I always wanted to see what the WWE would be like with AJ involved. Being in the ring, we brought out the best in each other. I wish AJ a speedy recovery and phenomenal is a great word to describe him.”
It looked like Cena was going to be in a tag team with AJ Styles to face down The Bloodline at WWE Fastlane. However, an injury to Styles changed plans – and Cena instead teamed with LA Knight, defeating Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa.
It’s unclear when Styles will be able to return to the ring, and was still fresh back into the ring after an ankle injury which had him miss his first WrestleMania.
Cena meanwhile knows that his time in the ring will be done again once the actors strike in Hollywood is done, due to having a movie in the works. An injury to Cena would impact the work of many – which limits his ability to wrestle within WWE on a frequent basis.
