MMA fans still hoping to see Tony Ferguson fight Khabib Nurmagomedov may have to settle for Twitter spats with his manager.
UFC lightweight and fan favorite Tony Ferguson recently clapped back at Khabib’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, over some unsavory remarks comparing him to a “jealous old girlfriend”.
Tony Ferguson Fires Back at Abdelaziz’s “Jealous Old Girlfriend” Sledge: “Sit Down and Shut Up!”
“You so jealous like an old girlfriend she can get man,” said Ali, prompting Tony to unleash a hellstorm of initial capitals and baffling syntax.
““You’re Saying It Wrong. Thought I Taught You Better Ya’ Thot. You Assholes Forget Where You Get Your Phrases From Like Any Other Casual. Sit Down & Shut Up Before I Ankle Pick You. More Annoying Than An Clingy Ex, Fatheads Done Staying Relevant.”
Khabib and Tony’s rivalry goes back years, with the pair set to fight five times over, and each fight getting cancelled. Their most recent cancellation came right at the start of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Khabib retired in early 2021, and appears committed to his retirement. In August, he heavily criticized Tony for continuing to fight despite a noticeable dip in his abilities.
“He is 38-years-old, tell me how he can make a comeback? He was dominated in his last three bouts. Different styles, a striker, a grappler Dariush, Oliveira, Gaethje, they all dominated him both standing up and on the ground.
When you are 38, I believe you have to pull the brakes and there have to be people around him to say, hey, you are aging. You have to stop.”
Khabib remains thoroughly focused on his own fighting promotion, Eagle FC, and is currently going about the business of signing fighters. Khabib has even hinted that he might poach big-name fighters unhappy with their standing with the major promotions such as the UFC and Bellator, although he has yet to take any huge stars from his former employer.
As for Tony Ferguson, at 38 and riding a serious skid, his next move isn’t quite as obvious. It’s unlikely that Tony will ever fight for a UFC title unless he can string together some very impressive wins. The most likely scenario for “El Cucuy” at this stage is a fight against Michael Chandler, a vicious striker riding a similar losing streak. Both have recently lost fights against Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje, and both claim to still see UFC gold in their future.
Do you think Tony’s right about Ali Abdelaziz, or does Ali have the upper hand? Let us know in the comments.
