A TikTok video went viral after a woman claimed that she and her family were kicked out of a homeless shelter following a positive test for Covid-19.

Reports indicate that the incident had occurred in Hawaii. In the video here, we can see that the family are collecting their belongings and moving them as they get ready to relocate to another area of land.
The video was captioned by the following comments: “Me & my family kicked out of the shelter due to a positive COVID test. Leaving us in the cold nowhere else to go.“How do you kick a family out having nowhere to go?”
This claim is highly troubling for the following reasons. First of all, it would demonstrate that there are no self-isolated areas for homeless people which would suggest that more needs to be done in order to tackle this issue.
Secondly, there is no guarantee that the Covid test is accurate as demonstrated by the possibility of false positives. Therefore, the outcome of a given test ultimately could depend on how much luck one particular person had on that given day.
Thirdly, there is the inevitable question of where could the family be expected to go if a homeless shelter would not take them in. The video instantly went viral with over 3.5 million views and counting.
Naturally, a large number of people had something to say on the matter. Many people felt that the decision was unjust, irrespective of whether or not there was a pandemic.
One person wrote: “I understand them kicking you out for the safety of others, but they definitely should’ve found some sort of self-isolating place for you to stay.”
While another stated: “Everyone in Hawaii lives good except actual Hawaiians.” As of now, a GoFundMe page has been set up by the TikToker that has raised over $4,000. Hopefully, that can go someway to help her get her life back on track.
