It has been known since Joey Mercury began blasting Ring of Honor on Twitter that things are not well in the once well loved company. One bit of information that he leaked to the public was that ROH had no intentions of resigning Shane Taylor for 2020, something he also learned through the tweets from Mercury.
After dropping the ROH TV Championship to Dragon Lee at Final Battle, that is seemingly the last major appearance he will have for the company. The news leaked by Mercury was true, Taylor’s 3+ year tenure there has officially ended.
Shane Taylor Announces News On Twitter
As most wrestlers do these days, Shane Taylor took to Twitter to let his fans know what was happening. He made the following statement. “In 3+ years – Idols became peers/rivals/friends – I went from dark match to being THE MATCH night in and night out – I made history & did it my way Anyone who’s ever watched, cheered, booed, bought a shirt or supported me while in a Ring Of Honor ring. Thank you. #NEXTCHAPTER”
It’s unclear what is next for the man who dominated Ring of Honor throughout 2019 in some of the companies best matches. He more than proved his worth, which is why the decision to not even try to resign him is so odd. You would think that they would have wanted to keep him, and have his TV title reign continue into the new year. Instead, they built another star than just let them go just as they reached their peak.
Reuniting With Keith Lee?
When Shane Taylor intially joined Ring Of Honor, he didn’t come alone. He had a man by the name of Keith Lee by his side. While Lee didn’t really stick around in ROH, their partnership could be rekindled in a new place. Keith Lee has recently been in the main event scene of WWE NXT, but should a strong singles push not work out for him, reuniting him with Shane Taylor could be a great way to create the must-see monster tag team of 2020. Shane has the size and ability that WWE loves, but he also loves doing things his own way, which might be the deal breaker in this situation.
Regardless of where Shane Taylor ends up, I just hope he is able to suceed and show Ring of Honor that they made a mistake in not securing him for the future.
