Queen Elizabeth has given Duchess Camilla a long-awaited blessing. The Monarch has made her decision recently and has revealed that it is her sincere wish for Prince Charles’s wife, Camilla Parker Bowles to be known as Queen Consort whenever he takes the throne.
The Queen Gives Camilla Her Blessings
The queen released a statement on the eve of the 70th anniversary of her ascension day, also known as her platinum jubilee. She said in the statement, “When in the fullness of time, my son becomes king, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla, the same support that you have given me and it is my sincere wish that when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her loyal service.”
Back in 2005, when Camilla and Charles were married, it was made very clear that Camilla would not be using the late Princess Diana’s title which is Princess of Wales, instead, the palace released a statement revealing that Camilla would be using the title of her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall and it was intended that she would rise to the title of her Royal Highness the Prince’s consort when Charles becomes king.
However, Queen Elizabeth made it very clear on February 5th, that she wants queen as a part of Camilla’s future title and while Camilla may be destined to be a queen, she will not be the queen.
According to the Guardian, a Queen Consort is a wife of a reigning king. The Queen also referred to as the queen Regan is a female monarch equivalent in rank entitled to a king, who reigns in her own right. Pretty much what queen Elizabeth does now, but this gesture shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Queen Elizabeth previously showed her support for Duchess Camila when she made her a royal lady of the noblest order of the Garter, in recognition of her contribution to the monarchy. A spokesperson for Clarence House where Charles and Camilla live told the BBC that they were touched and honoured.
