Recently, we have started to hear rumblings of a new promotion starting with Choose Your Narrative – which might not be the only new option showing up. Former WWE writer (and Fred from the live action Scooby Doo movies) Freddie Prinze Jr has never shied away from his love of the sport, and now wants to start up his own company. However, he intends to do things differently.
Freddie Prinze Jr. Wants To Start A Televised Indy Promotion That Works With Screen Actors Guild
While Freddie intends to start a wrestling company, and has been putting away money to slowly build up to being able to start it – he has reasonable goals. The hope is to start up an indy promotion and take it to small channels, instead of gunning for the top spot in the industry like AEW is doing right now. His full quote from his “Wrestling With Freddie” podcast is as follows.
“I don’t want to compete with WWE or AEW. I just want to kind of have my own thing and have it on smaller channels, smaller networks, have it be a SAG show, so that they’re all Screen Actors Guild. That’s what SAG stands for. Then they can have some insurance for as long as that union lasts. I’m sure there’s some scheme to bust that one up if it’s still there.”
I went back to work. I’m excited for it. I’m putting together my little wrestling piggy bank. I’m putting some money in there for the next year and a half, a little over a year and a half, and then I’m going in on my indie wrestling brand.”
There is absolutely enough free agents on the market to make this happen, with Cesaro of WWE fame being the latest to join the free agent pool. Getting wrestlers into the SAG will also be amazing, and could truly be something that changes how the professional wrestling industry works. It’s a very possible plan – and it will be exciting to see if it all comes together.
