That is according to a recent poll. As of now, Prince Charles is next in line to the throne. However, his popularity is not very high with the public based on his affair with Duchess Camilla, while he was married to the late Princess Diana.
And given that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no longer in the Royal family, that has left the space open for William and Kate to take a lead. In the poll conducted by the Express, 1,658 out of 2,362 people (70 percent) wanted to see the couple take the throne.
It is one thing when it comes to an anonymous poll, but it is another thing entirely when it comes to people expressing their views openly. And in that regard, there was still a bit of caution when it came to seeing the couple take the throne.
A certain subset of people felt that it was too early for them. This was on the basis that they have three children. And given that they are still at a young age, more focus should be spent on them.
One person wrote: “William and Catherine need as much time with their young family that they can have so that they can bring them up.
“Only then will William and Catherine be free to devote all of their time to royal duties. I think that is what they would prefer anyway.” However, others argued that it would be a good move to see William and Kate next.
They felt the monarchy had become outdated to the point where a rejuvenation was needed. After all, Queen Elizabeth II is not getting any younger.
Another user stated: “William and Catherine would breathe new life into the Royal Family, a younger outlook.” William and Kate are very popular with the public.
And if they were to take on the role of King and Queen, then they would have a support base that the other members of the Royal family may not have.
