The wrestling world is in a state of mourning following the death of Scott Hall. Over his career, Hall touched performers and fans alike – and left an undeniable legacy. From his time in WCW as a founding member of the nWo faction, or in as Razor Ramon in the WWF – he had a full career that only lacked a World Championship. Instead during his time in the WWF, he made the WWF Intercontinental Championship truly important.
Razor Ramon Vs. Shawn Michaels Made Ladder Matches Mainstream
One of the biggest matches in Wrestlemania’s early years came at Wrestlemania X – when Razor Ramon & Shawn Michaels battled in one of the first ladder matches seen on TV over the WWF Intercontinental Championship. The ladder match wasn’t invented here, instead having origins in Stampede Wrestling. Two belts hung above the ring, and they went to war to try and prove who the Undisputed WWF Intercontinental Champion was.
Despite happening over two decades ago, this match still holds up by today’s standard, and is still one of the matches that indicate what a ladder match should be. It’s forever going to remain one of the most iconic matches in WWE’s history – and WWE might be able to use that for Wrestlemania going forward.
No Current Plans For The Belt At Wrestlemania 38 – But An Easy Match Is Right There
Right now, Ricochet is the current WWE Intercontinental Champion, and there really aren’t many plans involving him ahead of Wrestlemania. The bigger storyline with the belt came with Johnny Knoxville of Jackass fame costing Sami Zayn his championship – but Ricochet is still needing an opponent for Wrestlemania.
Either throwing together a multi-man ladder match for the event, or running a quick tournament to determine someone to face Ricochet at Wrestlemania in a one on one ladder match? It’d give a potential show stealing match. The likes of Sheamus, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Butch (fka Pete Dunne) and more all have no path to Wrestlemania, and would all be perfect in a big ladder match.
