Nobody is more entertained by Jorge Masvidal’s arrest over an altercation with Colby Covington than former opponent Ben Askren. Askren was the recipient of the UFC’s fastest-ever knockout, sustaining a flying knee to the head from Masvidal in only the fifth second of their fight in July 2019.
Since then, the pair have repeatedly traded barbs, including Masvidal getting a tattoo on his shoulder that looks eerily like Askren’s unconscious silhouette from that very fight.
Askren Roasts Masvidal Over Arrest
So with Jorge Masvidal potentially facing serious charges after attacking Colby Covington at a Miami steakhouse, Ben Askren did what he does best – or perhaps second best, after wrestling – and took to Twitter to talk some trash.
“Imagine having 25 minutes to punch someone as many times as you want legally, but you can’t get it done so you gotta sneak up at the steak house
The couple times I got beat up I just thought shit that sucked I should trained harder or employed better tactics. Not let me sneak up and attack him on the street bc I have anger/insecurity issues.
Jorge also talked about my family so he is being a hypocritical terd on top of all else. Suck it up butter cup, you got whipped. It happens sometimes.”
Jorge Masvidal’s record-breaking flying knee knockout win over Ben Askren catapulted the Miami-born fighter to stardom after years spent languishing on the UFC’s prelims. To earn the Askren fight, Masvidal knocked title hopeful Darren Till out before a baying home crowd in London. To finish his ascendant 2019, Masvidal defeated Nate Diaz (albeit via doctor’s stoppage) to earn the semi-legitimate BMF belt.
Since then, Masvidal has lost to welterweight champ Kamaru Usman twice, and most recently to his own arch-nemesis and former best friend Colby Covington. Askren, after losing to Masvidal, lost to Demian Maia a few months later, before announcing his retirement from MMA. He shifted into pro boxing – of sorts – to take on Jake Paul, who also knocked Askren out in the first round of their fight.
With the situation regarding Masvidal and Covington’s altercation still unfolding, it’s unclear what the next step will be for “Street Jesus”. Should Colby Covington press charges, Masvidal may face serious prison time for his actions, which he claimed were in retaliation for Covington talking trash about Masvidal’s kids in the lead up to UFC 272.
