One of the most emotional moments of WWE this past year came with Johnny Gargano leaving WWE NXT. Long been considered one of the key players, and perhaps even the heart of the brand – he would leave earlier this year, saying he was ‘betting on himself’. Since then, he’s kept a low profile – enjoying time with his newborn child and streaming on Twitch, but has now put a time limit on his career as a professional wrestler.

Johnny Gargano Has 5 Years Before Retirement

During a recent appearance on “Insight with Chris Van Vliet”, Gargano would go into detail about his choice to leave WWE NXT – and about how nice it was to say goodbye to the NXT audience. Gargano would say the following.

“I feel very content. It was just a time period in my life where that chapter was closed as well as I could close it and end the story the right way and to get to thank people. I thanked people that don’t even work for the company anymore. I had no restraints. I just went out here and spoke from the heart. It was not scripted.”

Despite this, he still hopes to come back to WWE someday – just as a coach in the WWE Performance Center or a backstage producer. Gargano had the following to say about his potential future in WWE.

“It’s hard. Obviously the name Johnny Gargano in wrestling will always be beneficial money-wise. People will want to pay to see me wrestle, meet me, and learn from me. In reality, I have a job for life. I could go back to WWE and be a producer, be a coach or train people. I hope so. I assume so. I have a great relationship with everyone there. But I have said that I want to wrestle until I’m 40 , and that’s 6 years away. So I only have 5 years to maximize whatever I want to do in this.”

His Next Chapter Is Waiting To Be Written

Right now, fans are hoping to see Johnny Gargano join the roster of AEW. Many of his inspirations and rivals have already made their way there, namely Bryan Danielson & Adam Cole. With only five years on the clock however, Gargano might just choose to stay independent – and get as many dream matches in as possible before looking to rejoin WWE for a nice steady backstage job.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
