When Minoru Suzuki defeated Rhett Titus to win the ROH World Television Championship, no one knew what to expect from his reign. Suzuki defending the belt on AEW Dynamite against Samoa Joe was especially nothing that fans were thinking they would see from Suzuki. However, that is the case tonight – and this is a dream match for many. Over his career, Joe has mixed it up with the likes of Kenta Kobashi and Mitsuharu Misawa – and tonight faces another hard hitting puroresu legend in Suzuki.
A War Of Chops To Start This Match
Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt got front row seats for this match, and Joe got face to face with Suzuki as this match started. Joe took a chop to the face from Suzuki, and they’d proceed to batter each other for the next thirty seconds. Both men had blood red chests already, and the strikes kept flying.
Suzuki had his knees buckled, but just came back twice as hard with his next chops. Joe would follow suit, before Suzuki would just smile and nail some downright ugly forearm smashes. Suzuki would finally be dropped with a running forearm, the first strikedown of a match that to this point was 100% strikes.
Joe would go to the ropes to get Suzuki, and end up in the armbreaker over the ropes. Suzuki would take the arm of Joe in the ring with the Fujiwara armbar, with Joe able to survive. Joe would take some more strikes from the legendary Suzuki before hitting a series of headbutts.
Samoa Joe Claims The ROH World Television Championship
Samoa Joe would nail a powerbomb in the center of the ring, and as Suzuki kicked out – it’d be moved into an STF. Joe would move further into the crossface, and then the omoplata. He’s not the Samoa Submission Machine for nothing.
Suzuki would be able to get the bottom rope, and came back with a PK in the middle of the ring. A cocky pinfall would follow, forcing Joe to expend energy kicking out. Joe would almost be set up for the Gotch Piledriver – but Suzuki asked for another exchange of chops in the middle of the ring.
Suzuki would slip into the sleeper hold, before being driven down into the ring as a counter. Joe would take a dropkick to the face, before Suzuki looked for the Gotch Style Piledriver again. The hands were hooked, but Joe would not budge. Suzuki was taken to the top rope for the Muscle Buster, but Joe was instead caught in the triangle choke. On second attempt Muscle Buster landed, and Joe claimed the ROH World Television Championship for the first time in his career.
After the match, Lethal would taunt Joe before the lights went out. A giant was in the ring, Satnam Singh is here – a trainee of Sonjay Dutt, and perhaps the biggest man signed to AEW. Vice Grip would neutrailze Joe and Lethal Injection would land.
