According to media reports, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie, the Earl and Countess of Wessex will embark on a trip to the Caribbean between the 22nd and 28th of April. The reports state that their visit to four selected Caribbean cities is in commemoration of the platinum anniversary of the Queen.
However, their forthcoming tour of the Caribbean has drawn loads of criticism from different people. Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, a political analyst, has also expressed her displeasure with the royal couple’s upcoming tour.
Dr. Shola Says The Caribbean Citizens Don’t Need The Royal Family To Celebrate Them
On Friday’s Jeremy Vine, Dr Shola shared her thoughts on Prince Edward and Sophie’s upcoming Caribbean tour, and she didn’t hold back. The lawyer said, “Reparations were given to the slave owners but not to the enslaved. So this is what we are talking about, if they aren’t ready to do that, what the heck are they [Sophie and Edward] going there for?

Let me tell you this, they say they are going there to celebrate the culture, future, and vibrancy of the islands – how insulting and disingenuous”. Dr. Shola further maintained that “they don’t need the Royal Family to celebrate them” as they are “celebrating themselves by themselves.”
“What they need and what should be done, not because they need it, but the right thing to do is for the Royal Family to address, truth, justice, and reparation,” she added.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex are scheduled to kick-start their royal engagement on Friday, April 22. The couple were reportedly expected to touch down in Grenada. However, such arrangements were suspended. It is understood that the Monarch’s representative in Grenada, the Governor-General, advised the couple to cancel their short trip there. No one has been able to pinpoint the exact cause of the last-minute change.
Prince Edward and Sophie’s Caribbean visit comes just a month after Prince William and Kate Middleton returned from the same region. Back then, demonstrations against the monarchy disrupted the trip of the Cambridges.
