From the UFC they announced, that this is not how anyone would want a fight to end. And it truly isn’t. Dean Barry ‘the Dubliner’ will completely dominate his opponent Mike Jackson. This was the prediction. However, things took a slightly different turn since the first round.
Mike Jackson has been on a pause from fighting for four complete years, leaving the public unsure of his performance and unsure of what to expect from the fight.
Dean Barry Disqualified Due To An Eye Poke
Now apparently, the underdog Mike Jackson benefited greatly from the UFC Vegas 52 event and took the win without much of a hustle. Without a hustle, but not without much pain.
In the first round of the bout, just two minutes into the fight Dean Barry managed to knock down his opponent and delivered several considerable shots to his head. He performed a several-punch combo and ended it with a powerful knee to Mike Jackson’s head. The situation was promising for the 37-year-old ‘The Truth’. However, right after The Truth pushed forward and they went to a somewhat of a clinch in the middle of the octagon, Dean Barry’s hand ended up on Mike Jackson’s face.
Mike Jackson was crumbled to the ground. Surprisingly this was not due to a powerful kick or punch, but due to an illegal move. As Mike Jackson fell to the ground and asked for a doctor’s assistance, it was obvious that something serious happened.
Dean put his fingers in Mike’s eyes and pushed during the standing clash. This is an illegal move in the MMA sport by any means and is prone to penalization.
Medical assistance was in the octagon in a matter of seconds. They stopped the fight and the judges disqualified Mike directly.
It cannot be determined easily if this was a move that was done on purpose, or it happened impulsively without intention. When in the octagon, the adrenaline is rushing through you, you are doing much of the movements impulsively. However, Dean Barry should have been aware of his hands and should have been careful of such things happening. After all, he is a professional UFC fighter.
After the fight, we are still waiting on info from the official UFC to inform on Dean Barry’s future in the promotion.
Dean told the journalists that he had a curse thrown at him long before the fight. He realized this when he faced issues at the border. And even before that when he faced complications with his visa. The Irishman had a year-long battle with the authorities.
The ‘curse’ continued on his debut last night. He turned a ‘sure’ win into a loss only because he was not cautious. Was it a curse or was it only him being not careful? – In any case, this is not something that should happen to a professional. Intentional or not, it is penalized as it should be.
