The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie, have baffled many people with their choice of gift during their Caribbean trip. The couple are currently on a royal trip to the Caribbean, which follows Prince William and Kate Middleton’s tour of the Caribbean that ended a few weeks ago.
The Wessexes Gifts To Prime Minister, Phillip Pierre Mocked On Social Media
The Wessexes had a brief meeting with Prime Minister Philip Pierre in Saint Lucia three days ago. And both parties swapped some gifts as a show of mutual respect. While the prime minister offered the couple an artwork, the Wessexes gave the prime minister a Jubilee package and a signed picture of themselves.

However, their choice of gift did not go down well with many people. Now, the couple have been massively criticised by a lot of people on Twitter. A user said, “Could at least have given a photo of HMTQ. Who gives a picture of themself as a present?” Another commenter wrote, “His face says it all, reminds me of the look I gave my husband when he gave me an iron for Christmas.”
Someone added, “That will look perfect in his downstairs loo.” Nevertheless, some people were quick to disclose that the Wessexes’ choice of gift was based on a royal custom. They claimed that royals before now used to offer signed pictures of themselves as gifts on their royal tours.
Besides Saint Lucia, Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex touched down in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. However, they did not show up in Grenada after the termination of the trip. Before the Wessexes embarked on their trip to the Caribbean, the country’s Reparations Support Commission published an open letter to the couple that read, “For us, they are the source of genocide and of continuing deep international injury, injustice and racism.
We hope you will respect us by not repeating the mantra. We are not simpletons.” Many believe that Prince Edward and Sophie’s trip to the Caribbean is one of the desperate attempts by the Monarchy to strengthen their frail relationship with the Commonwealth realms in the Caribbean.
