This morning (5/6) Big E took to twitter this morning to update everyone on his recovery from a broken neck, and it’s not the best of news but there’s hope things will rectify themselves.
At the moment, the time table for his injury to heal has been extended as his C1 is not healing as was hoped, so he’s going to spend another 4-6 weeks with the neck brace on to try and avoid fusion surgery.
“For those desirous of an update, my C1 apparently isn’t healing optimally. I’ll spend another 4-6 weeks in a brace in hopes that I can avoid a fusion. But don’t you fret! I’ve got a tremendous support system & what shall be shall be.”
Big E seems to be in good spirits and that’s great. He could be the most positive guy we’ve heard of aside from Diamond Dallas Page.

Continuous updates
Since his injury on Smackdown on March 11, Big E has been open and honest with his fans on social media.
He gave an updates while in the hospital later that night where he said his C1 and C6 vertebrae were fractured, and he was expected to be completely healed within 8-12 weeks, which is standard for a broken neck.
While the injury itself is bad, it could’ve been a lot worse as he couldn’t been paralyzed, suffered a stroke, or died.
He’s talked about how grateful he is for that and for the fans and fellow wrestlers that have reached out to him, and a week later took a walk around his neighborhood as he gave another update.
Long list
Pro wrestling has a long list of neck injuries people have suffered over the years, with Steve Austin being one of the biggest names we’ve heard.
Like with Big E, something went wrong.
While Austin wasn’t thrown onto his head like Big E was, he did take a piledriver from Owen Hart. Austin was able to finish the match and go on to have a hall of fame career before the injury forced his retirement.
The good news is Austin’s injury happened roughly 25 years ago and though it was a different type of injury, medicine has advanced a great deal since then, so there’s room for a lot of optimism for Big E.
Big E still has a lot in front of him to accomplish, and as much as we’d love to see him back in the ring, his health and happiness are more important.
To that end, if he does remain in the wrestling business we’d love to see him as a manager or in some other capacity as his charisma and energy are infectious.
Whatever the future holds, we wish him the best for a speedy and safe recovery as well as plenty of happy times to come.
