Jeff Cobb has been one of the more exciting wrestlers around in recent years. Gaining prominence as the man behind the monstrous Mantaza in Lucha Underground, his unprecedented speed and power have made him a deadly force and fan favorite just about everywhere he has worked.
Until recently he had an exclusive deal with Ring of Honor, where he was sadly underutilized for most of the year. The partnership ROH has with New Japan Pro Wrestling worked to his benefit, as he was able to make his debut in the land of the rising sun and become a force in tournaments like the New Japan Cup & G1 Climax.
His exclusive dealings with ROH have ended, and he will now work for them on a by appearance basis. He is reportedly currently content with his spot in that company, but his contract being up means he can stray from them at any time should he choose to do so.
Could Jeff Cobb Make A Splash In AEW?
The hottest promotion in the world today is All Elite Wrestling, and while their roster is currently stacked, there is always room for top-level talent like Jeff Cobb in any locker room. While he isn’t the largest man, his style is unlike anything else you will find in their roster. He would be a worthwhile addition if they can get him on a contract. But where they are unable to get dealings with New Japan at this time, that could keep Cobb from wanting to work there.
Will He Be Showing Up In Japan More Often?
Jeff Cobb has worked a fair share of tours for New Japan at this point, and fans over there have been absolutely loving him. His hard hitting yet agile style is a hit, and he would be perfect in the NEVER Openweight or IWGP United States championship scene, and could even be a very easy contender for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. The sky is the limit for him in a company who wants to put some focus on him.
For now, he will be still showing up in Ring of Honor. Maybe they can start to use him more in fear of losing him, as they really can’t afford to lose anyone at this point with how dire their situation has become. He has already been announced for Josh Barnett’s: Bloodsport III, so that will be one of his first non-ROH related bookings in a while.
