Floyd Mayweather’s Fight In Dubai Postponed After UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Dies Aged 73

Floyd Mayweather's Fight In Dubai Postponed After UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Dies Aged 73

Floyd Mayweather is not active in boxing since 2017 when he fought Conor McGregor in a debut fight. Or even better, he has not fought a legitimate boxer since 2015. His inactivity of 7 years is not something that can be neglected. A pause of 7 years might bring a serious fall in readiness, and a serious underestimation of his next opponent.

The undisputed boxer should have been fighting on May 14th against Don Moore. The bout cancellation happens on very short notice. It came unexpectedly due to the sudden death of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh President. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan passes away after a long time battling with his illness.

The sad event brought the whole UAE to its knees. The country is in sorrow. As a result, the Ministry of Presidential Affairs announces the implementation of a three-day suspension of all state and private work, and all public events, including sports exhibitions.

The promoter of the event releases a statement regarding this saying:

“We are very sad due to the announcement of the recent passing of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Due to the passing, the United Arab Emirates will be observing an official period of mourning for the next 40 days. Therefore, the Global Titans Dubai event, which was scheduled to take place on May 14th at the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, has been postponed until further notice. Soon we’ll be announcing a new date. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We reassure fans that this spectacular event will be staged in the future”.

The situation is such that the fans will have to hold a little bit more for the long-awaited return of the boxer. Mayweather sends his condolences to the Arabian people as soon as he gets the sad news and posts an Instagram post. “I send my condolences to the entire UAE. RIP Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed,” Mayweather says.

They say that you need to stop and get out as soon as you notice that you are starting to give in. That way people will remember you at your best. That’s exactly what Mayweather did. He retires as an undisputed fighter and from time to time organizes such exhibition fights. They are a reminder not to forget him already and they are his way of showing that he still got it.

The promoters will be rearranging the fight, however, at the moment they do not know the exact date. However, we know that it will not be happening in the following 40 days. That’s giving the fighters at least 40 more days to continue their preparations for the fight.

We hope for a great exhibition, a great show and an exciting fight. What do you think, can this be the first loss for the undisputed boxer?
