Just got back in and after a short rest, I’m ready to talk about the show I just watched live! Tonight included a bit of a grudge match, as Christopher Daniels took on Sammy Guevara. AEW Dynamite came to Southaven, MS – though largely referred to as Memphis – for their Anniversary show! A year out from the official, formal announcement of All Elite Wrestling, they put on a special show to be sure. Just half an hour away from me no less, I couldn’t help but go. Now that the show’s over though, it’s back to work for me. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give you all the results from tonight’s event!
Sammy Guevara defeated Christopher Daniels
This bout was setup last week, when Sammy Guevara mocked Daniels’ recent run of bad fortune. Whilst his SCU partners, Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian have hauled in tag gold, the veteran general of the group has not had the same success on his own. He was storyline injured by Pentagon Jr. with a Package Piledriver onto the rampway in early October. He made his return to the ring for revenge in December, but this went awry for him. A messy springing moonsault attempt led to his defeat.
This botch was swiftly made a part of his story. Daniels turns 50 in two months, and after such a lengthy career and kayfabe injury, he’s found himself wondering if he’s still got what it takes to compete at a high level. When Guevara made light of his ails, Daniels had no choice but to try and prove him wrong. Unfortunately, he lost tonight, albeit after Pentagon Jr. appeared for the distraction.
This then setup an appearance from the Dark Order who have made it apparent that they intend to go after SCU. Looking to screw with Scorpio and Frankie, they attempted to goad Daniels into joining their group. He ultimately refused and was swarmed on in kind, only for the rest of SCU alongside the Young Bucks to emerge and fend them off. Daniels capped off the segment himself by nailing his BME – the Best Moonsault Ever. This was a moral victory that showed he hasn’t lost quite as much as he may have thought.
