Samoa Joe might have qualified for the Owen Hart Memorial Cup like everyone else, but he didn’t not get the luxury of finding out who his first opponent is. Instead, he drew the joker card – and will face a mystery opponent. Speculation has been running wild, with many names brought up – but only one man would actually show up. This is Johnny Elite, previously John Morrison of WWE.
Samoa Joe Was Prepared For Anyone, Even Johnny Elite
Samoa Joe was not too impressed with the debut of Johnny Elite, but a hard elbow smash to the head would wake him up. Joe nailed a massive chop to the chest of Johnny Elite, before being taken down with a double leg takedown. The ropes would save Joe, before taking a kick to the midsection.
Commentary would hype up Elite as a former AAA Mega Champion – the same belt Kenny Omega once held. Joe would keep the heavy strikes coming, before applying a crank to the neck. Elite was able to use the long legs to kick his way free, before a kick to the temple. Joe hit some fast jabs, and Elite would respond with a cartwheel into a lariat.
Elite would dive to the outside, and Joe was crushed underneath. Joe would whip Elite into the barricade, before taking him back into the ring. A huge shoulder tackle would turn Elite inside out, before an inverted Samoan Drop, big boot, and running senton.
Muscle Buster would be attempted, but Elite fought free before a Samoan Drop. Elite went up top, and hit a 450 Splash for the near fall. Starship Pain was met with double knees, before Joe slapped the taste out of Elite’s mouth, before the running Muscle Buster for the win.
After the bell, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh would attack Joe – but were driven off by Best Friends. Joe will face the winner of Kyle O’Reilly vs. Rey Fenix in the semi-finals, with the winner of that match facing either Adam Cole or Jeff Hardy at Double or Nothing.
Hangman Page Sends A Message To CM Punk
Konosuke Takeshita has wasted no time getting in the ring with some of the best in AEW. Following a recent loss to Jay Lethal, he’s been chosen as an opponent for the AEW World Heavyweight Champion – Hangman Page. Page is just a few weeks away from defending his belt against CM Punk, but Takeshita is looking to get the biggest win in his AEW history tonight.
Takeshita started fast with a boot to the face, before being caught with a Fallaway Slam. Page would follow up with a springboard lariat to the apron, before a vaulting body press to the floor. Takeshita would look for a springboard, but Page shoved the legs before he could launch. The champ was dialed in, and determined to not have his be a trap match.
Page would hit a back suplex onto the apron of the ring, before a moonsault off the top to the outside. In the ring, Takeshita would rush into a big boot, before being planted with a Death Valley Driver. Takeshita would fight back with some strikes, before a massive jumping lariat. Blue Thunder Bomb would follow, before a massive dive to the floor.
Helluva Kick would land, before Page hit one of his own. They’d trade German Suplexes, before they collided with lariats in the middle of the ring. Page would get distracted by CM Punk on commentary and missed the Buckshot Lariat. Takeshita would nail a Last Ride powerbomb before a knee strike, but Page survived. Stalling German Suplex would land, but Takeshita couldn’t hold the pin.
Jumping lariat from Takeshita was blocked by a rolling elbow, before Page would take him to the top rope. Super Fallaway Slam was set, but Takeshita took him down with a lariat. Page landed on his feet, hit the Buckshot and and Go To Sleep for the win.
