Back at Final Battle: End of An Era, we were supposed to see Bandido defend the ROH World Heavyweight Championship against Jonathan Gresham. COVID-19 would force Bandido to miss the show, so Gresham faced Lethal instead to name a second ROH World Heavyweight Champion. Tonight, we finally get the match – and will find out who the Undisputed ROH World Heavyweight Champion truly is.
Two Of The Best In The World Today
Bandido had Chavo Guerrero Jr. in his corner tonight, but he’d ask for no cheating tonight. Chavo would discourage the Code of Honor, and Bandido listened. Gresham wouldn’t get heated over this, but respect is what The Foundation was built on. Bandido would take Gresham down with a side headlock takeover, but was not able to keep the control.
Gresham would quickly trip Bandido up, but was unable to get a submission hold on. Bandido would show his insane power as he nearly took Gresham from the mat into a suplex, before Gresham would fake Bandido out before a big dropkick to the chest.
Bandido would overcome the speed of Gresham, before hitting a huge dropkick to the chest. He’d have a second to play to the crowd, before being sent to the apron. Bandido would be kicked off, landing hard on the floor. Gresham wouldn’t follow, waiting for Bandido to get back in before bending the wrist back.
Bandido would be taken into a crossface, but was able to find the bottom rope. Gresham was taken up into the surfboard stretch, but was able to counter into a pinfall for a two count. Bandido was taken back into the crossface, before Gresham quickly moved into an ankle lock.
Gresham would move into the Octopus Stretch, but Bandido would near the ropes before he got the hold fully applied. Bandido would get out, before hitting an armdrag. He’d springboard to the top rope for a 1080 crossbody, before a deadlift suplex.
Bandido Ejects His Own Manager – Jonathan Gresham Is The Better Wrestler
Bandido held Gresham upside down for a full minute using just one arm for the bulk of this. The blood would rush to the head of Gresham, before finally being dropped down. He’d be able to fire off some chops, before nailing a massive lariat – spinning Bandido inside out.
German Suplex would follow, before a Straight Jacket German got a near fall. Gresham once again was able to get a crossface, before moving into the Octopus Stretch in the middle of the ring. Bandido would shift his weight and just open for Gresham to nail hammer blows to the side of the head.
Gresham would go for a dive to the outside, but Chavo would shove Bandido out of the way. Bandido took Gresham back into the ring, and they’d trade forearm blows before Bandido nailed the Fisherman Suplex for a two count. Shining Wizard would follow for another near fall.
Gresham would go for a series of cradle holds, but would only be able to get a few two counts. The referee was dropped, and Chavo threw the belt at Gresham. Bandido would tell the referee to eject Chavo for this, not wanting to win like this. Gresham had a chance to recover, but Bandido blocked a crossbody into a nea fall.
Bandido would hit the pop up cutter, but Gresham was once again able to hold on. 21Plex would see Gresham land on his feet, before a tight cradle pin got two. Gresham was sent outside for the Fosbury Flop, before the X-Knee and 21Plex for the closest fall of the match.
Gresham nailed a springboard moonsault and Suicide Dive before trapping Bandido with a tight pinfall for the victory in the middle of the ring.
Jay Lethal Crashes The End of The Show
After the match, Gresham tried to cut a promo – but Jay Lethal would be the one to interrupt. After everything he’s done for ROH & Gresham, Lethal deserves to be the first challenger for this belt. Gresham believes everything Lethal said, but his actions earlier in the night showed no honor.
Lethal would get physical saying that no one would know who Gresham was if it wasn’t for him. Sonjay Dutt would seemingly help to calm Gresham & Lethal down, before attacking Gresham. Lee Moriarty would make the save, before taking the Lethal Injection.
However, Samoa Joe would hit the ramp next. This is the man who made Jay Lethal. The man who holds the longest reign in ROH history. Lethal stepped off, but Dutt was choked out in seconds.
