When it was announced that Kenny Omega was joining AEW, few were surprised but everyone was excited. One of the original members of The Elite, he was set to be their biggest star, the huge attraction to draw in new and old fans alike. But since the beginning of the company, he has been a prominent talent, but not the face of the company. He recently did a Q&A session on Twitter, and we got a reason as to why this is.
Kenny Omega Wants To See The Future Of Wrestling Thrive
Twitter user @JohnErikHutt asked Kenny Omega “Why have you taken a back seat in AEW while you were the hottest star in Japan?” to which Omega responded “I lived out mostly all of my dreams during the last run I had and now a big part of my current dream is seeing a new generation thrive”.
It would seem that his run to the top of New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he was the absolute best wrestler in the world was almost enough to satisfy himself as a performer. He had an unprecedentedly good run, truly earning the name “The Best Bout Machine”. Now he works in AEW as both someone behind the scenes where he helps to plan out shows, and as an in-ring performer. He has a good record in AEW, but doesn’t come off as overbearing and tends to lose his big matches, while making people like Kip Sabian, Jack Evans, and Trent? look like stars when they face him.
Would It Make More Sense To Establish Him In AEW Before Winding Down?
Kenny Omega might be known to hardcore fans who stayed up until the early hours of the day to watch him perform in Japan, but most of their audience may not have ever seen a Kenny Omega match before. The could only be loosey familiar with his reputation as well . If AEW builds him up dominate for a bit, lets the audience understand what the hype is about it will mean more in the long run when he steps back to elevate other talent.
However Kenny Omega is used, he is still one of the best parts of AEW, and he is delivering some of the best matches so far for AEW. We could see him eventually become AEW Champion, but he is remaining humble and not booking himself to be the top guy. You need to respect that, even if it could be misguided very slightly.
