Dana White matches up Jon Jones with Stipe Miocic later this year for what is to be the greatest heavyweight bout since Randy Couture vs Tim Sylvia back at the UFC 68.
To witness Jon Jones’s incredible shape there is Yorgan de Castro, who is training with him for the last two years. Over this period he is seeing the champion transform before his eyes. He confirms that he is evidently bulking over the past period and will come out in his best shape.
Jon Jones Will Deform Stipe Miocic’s Face In His Debut Later This Year – He Will Win By A TKO Yorgan De Castro Says
Also, since he is training with him on a regular basis, he can confirm that he is fairly strong as well. So strong in fact, that De Castro is sure that when facing Miocic, he will run him through. That he will deform his face and hurt him badly. He also says that it can be safely said that he is the greatest heavyweight there is and the greatest that there ever was.
“He’s been waiting two years for this. He’s walking around at 255 pounds but is so strong. And cardio will be the key. He has so much cardio. He hits pads for two hours and doesn’t slow down. You’re never comfortable with him in sparring. If you start to get comfortable with the hands, he wrestles you.” – the fellow heavyweight says – “If you want to get up, he throws elbows and knees. Not many people can do that at heavyweight. Everybody has heavy hands, but not many people can combine wrestling and jiu-jitsu. And Jones’ versatility will make the difference at heavyweight.”
De Castro currently fights for Eagle FC which is in Khabib’s ownership. So since he is sure he won’t face Jon Jones himself, he can train with him without holding back.
“I don’t see anyone else at heavyweight with a good enough wrestling or ground game. And if they have good wrestling, Jones will be superior on the feet. The Stipe fight will be perfect. Stipe weighs the same and has good boxing.” – Castro adds – “I think Jones will run through Stipe. Jon will likely win by TKO.”
The fight was initially planned to happen a bit earlier, most probably mid-summer. However, Jon Jones shows a great sporting spirit and agrees to wait for Stipe Miocic until September, so he can enter the octagon in his best shape.
Who knows, maybe after the bout one of them will be given a title shot. A title shot, but not against Francis Ngannou. Francis’s future in the UFC is not sure, since as he says – “I will not fight for $500,000 or $600,000 anymore. It’s over.”
