Stardom Ace Mayu Iwatani Wants To Defend The Top Belt In Stardom In The Tokyo Dome Next Year

This year in an non-televised dark match, the talent of Stardom got a chance to show their stuff to fans in Japans largest arena. This was a good start for the partnership of Stardom & New Japan Pro Wrestling. Both of who are now owned by the same parent company in BushiRoad. But it is only a start for Stardom. The top name in the company, Mayu Iwatani spoke with TokyoSports about her personal goal for the next time she enters the Tokyo Dome.

Mayu Iwatani Wants To Defend The World Of Stardom Championship In The Tokyo Dome

Mayu Iwatani had the following to say when she spoke with Tokyo Sports. The entire article can be found here. “I was the 0th match (dark match) even though I entered the Tokyo Dome this time, so I would like to aim for participation in the main card next year. I want to match the title of the red belt (The World Of Stardom Championship) in the main card . My goal is to have a Tokyo Dome tournament with Stardom, but if I’m told if I can get there in a year, it’s like “Hmm …”

It seems like Mayu would want to defend their top title on a Stardom run show in the Tokyo Dome, not just as a part of a New Japan Pro Wrestling show at the iconic arena. While Stardom are a company on the rise, and they have been improving steadily, it is hard to tell if this goal is actually possible. We have only just begun to see the vision of a Stardom run by BushiRoad, and they could very well lift Stardom to heights not seen in womens wrestling in the country since the glory days of All Japan Womens Wrestling back in the 1990’s, where they were able to sell out the Tokyo Dome thanks to stars like Manami Toyota, Bull Nakano, and Aja Kong.

Would Stardom Need To Bring Back Their Biggest Stars For This?

There has been rumblings of BushiRoad being ready to offer former stars like Io Shirai & Kairi Sane huge money to return to Stardom once their contracts with WWE are finished. Would they need to bring back these big names to make a Tokyo Dome dream more plausible, or is the talent already around for this to happen? A lot can happen within a year, and they could turn some of their current talent into the megastars they would need to build to a major event like this. Mayu is spearheading their company, but talent like Hana Kimura have been pushing into becoming crossover stars in Japan which could also seriously help their chances. It is still very early, but Stardom will absolutely be a company to keep a close eye to in 2020. Big things are on the horizon.

Do you think we could see another all womens card have success in the Tokyo Dome? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
