Queen Elizabeth has reportedly altered her jubilee weekend plans to enable her to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s youngest child Lilibet on her first birthday. The monarch is expected to skip the Epsom Derby, an event she adores, in order to spend time with her great-granddaughter. The Epsom Derby has been scheduled to be held on June 4th, 2022. The Epsom Derby is only one of the many epic events that will be held during the platinum jubilee festivities.
Queen Elizabeth Will Skip Some Platinum Jubilee Events Due To Her Health Challenges
The Queen is also expected to skip other events during the platinum celebrations. Her Majesty has suffered from mobility challenges for a while now, which has made her walk with the help of a stick. Palace sources are reportedly putting all hands on deck to reduce her appearances at some of the jubilee events.
Queen Elizabeth Makes Major Change To Jubilee Plans To Enable Her To Meet Baby Lilibet
In addition to Lilibet’s birthday, it is thought that the Queen had already decided to skip the Derby because her horses were not good enough to run in it. Meanwhile, the monarch is still considering the idea of not attending the Trooping the Colour official salute set to be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022.
However, she is expected to join other active royals on the balcony to see the flypast and receive a salute from returning guardsmen. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew will not appear on the balcony with the other royals. This comes after the Queen opened the balcony to only active royals.
Nevertheless, the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as well as the Duke of York will reportedly join other royals at the Thanksgiving Service at St Paul’s Cathedral. The service will hold on Friday, 3rd June 2022. The Sussexes imminent return is the first time the couple will return as a family to the UK and the first time the Queen will get to meet Lilibet since her birth. Her Majesty met Archie in May 2019 at the Windsor Castle.
