Two of the UFC’s biggest stars may well be on a collision course. Jorge Masvidal recently told ESPN Deportes that he is looking forward to a return to the Octagon this year, in an attempt to disrupt his current three-fight losing streak. His target? Conor McGregor, who Masvidal says is too scared to risk getting baptised by “Street Jesus.”
“He is false. He knows that I am a man who hits hard and that I come to kill. I do not come to hug in the cage. I am going to give everything inside me to kill him. I have a little size, although now he’s shooting up and putting steroids and all kinds of things, but he is still a little boy.
Masvidal Rips “Little Boy” McGregor: “I’ll break his face”
I would love to fight at 170 pounds, but I don’t wait for anyone. If he wants to do it, I’ll break his face. If he doesn’t want to do it, let someone come next.”
McGregor responded via Twitter, calling Masvidal a “pigeon brain”: “An absolute pigeon brain this guy is. Stupid beyond belief.”
Both Masvidal and McGregor are riding three-fight losing streaks. Both Masvidal and McGregor have no fixed date to return to competition, although they are sidelined for very different reasons. Conor McGregor broke his leg fighting Dustin Poirier last July, and has spent the intervening year recovering in between bouts of Twitter vitriol. Jorge Masvidal, on the other hand, attempted to avenge his loss at Colby Covington’s hands by assaulting Covington outside a Miami steakhouse a few months back. Masvidal allegedly fractured Colby’s tooth and left him with “brain damage” as a result, and may face serious jail time if convicted.
Despite this, Jorge Masvidal insists that he’ll be back in the Octagon any minute now. “This year, I’ll guaranteed return. I don’t know the date yet. I think that with two fights, I can be in contention for the title or in a title contender fight.
There are options, but the first thing that matters is me. To be in the best condition of my life, to improve the fight. Everyone knows that I can throw the hands, the kicks, the knees. People know that they can’t beat me with their hands, that they have to throw me into the fight. It’s something that I have to improve and find the formula for.”
