Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth will not attend the Platinum Service of Thanksgiving. The monarch has decided to skip the historic service due to mobility challenges. Other members of the royal family, including Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle, are expected to grace the event. The Thanksgiving Service will be held at the famous St. Paul’s Cathedral in London today, Friday June 3rd, 2022.
The Queen Will Spend The Weekend With Princess Lilibet
A statement released by a Buckingham Palace source read, “The Queen greatly enjoyed today’s Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort. Taking into account the journey and activity required to participate in tomorrow’s National Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral, Her Majesty with great reluctance has concluded that she will not attend.”
The Queen Will Skip The Platinum Jubilee Service Of Thanksgiving Due To Her Mobility Issues
Queen Elizabeth’s withdrawal from the service comes as a surprise to only a few people. The Queen has reportedly agreed to skip some of the platinum events beforehand as she aims to manage herself throughout the long weekend. Meanwhile, it is also understood that the monarch will not show up at the Epsom Derby, which is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2022.
However, her decision to skip the event is not based on mobility concerns. Rather, it is reportedly down to her decision to spend the day with her great-grandchild, Princess Lilibet, who will celebrate her first birthday on that same day.
On Friday, 2nd June 2022, the monarch turned up at the balcony for the Trooping the colour event. This event signalled the beginning of the four-day platinum festivities. However, only 18 members of the royal family were allowed on the balcony.
This number did not include non-working royals and members of the extended family. In addition to the Thanksgiving service and the Trooping the colour event, the platinum festivities is expected to feature several other events. Some of the events include the Epsom Derby, the Big Jubilee lunch and the platinum jubilee pageant.
