The moment was significant since it was the first time that the Queen had the chance to meet her in person. With that being said, it would have been the perfect opportunity to get this on camera.
After all, as Harry and Meghan have been given the greenlight for their Netflix docuseries, this was much-needed material that they could have included.
However, as there were concerns that the couple’s appearance could have created a sideshow and upstaged the celebrations for the monarch’s 70th year in charge, the Queen was not going to play up to the cameras.
A source said: “No chance [of cameras]. [It was a] ‘private family meeting.” If these comments are taken to be true, then they are significant for the following reasons.
First of all, it may explain why the duo decided to make a quick exit from the celebrations. They did not even wait to see the monarch on the final night of the Jubilee.
Secondly, it sends a clear message that Harry and Meghan are now entirely separate from the Royals. Once they cut their ties, that included any material benefit that they would have been entitled to.
With that being said, there are serious question marks if Harry and Meghan will attend the UK again? And this was the sentiment being expressed on social media. A significant proportion of fans felt their visit was to capture some behind-the-scenes footage.
But with that no longer possible, they had nothing to offer which is why the comments were hostile. One person wrote: “They are despicable, they wanted to merch the Queen.”
While another person stated: “Absolutely! The Queen is not a commodity to be merchandised.” With no pictures to show for it, Harry and Meghan’s appearance was a low-key affair.
