Over the past few years, we’ve seen some women’s wrestling added into the mix of the male dominated New Japan Pro Wrestling. With both NJPW and Wonder Ring Stardom owned by the same parent company, BUSHI Road – it was only a matter of time before they ran a show together. After Stardom was able to wow NJPW fans with tag team action on major events, on November 20th – these two companies will unite for a huge event.
NJPW & Stardom To Have Equal Presence On November 20th
This news doesn’t come as a major shock, as NJPW has already run a joint night of Wrestle Kingdom alongside Pro Wrestling NOAH, and is set to work alongside All Elite Wrestling for Forbidden Door later this month. It’s exciting nonetheless however, and made waves when announced during a press conference.
Hiroshi Tanahashi would represent the roster on NJPW at this press conference, and would state the following.
“STARDOM’s wrestlers have had matches at our Tokyo Dome cards before, but this is something different. This is a joint promoted card; it isn’t a case of them taking part, but actually sharing equal presence. We’ll each have matches, and perhaps even combine, have the men and women tagging. It’ll be something really different.”
Some Mixed Tag Team Action Is All But Confirmed For This Event
With the event set for November, no matches have been announced at this time. However, we are likely to see at least two mixed tag team matches, as they’ve already been teased on social media. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Mayu Iwatani would like to team up, which makes sense given both hold the title of ace in their respective companies. Meanwhile, Starlight Kid would like to team with El Desperado to face AZM and Hiromu Takahashi.
These were all mentioned during the press conference, with the following translations.
Tanahashi: I want to team up with Iwatani. There must be something to learn from her.
Iwatani: I’d like to stand beside Tanahashi.
SLK: I have only one option. El Desperado! I wanna fight against the tag team of Hiromu Takahashi & AZM.
