Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and it’s that time of the week again – the very best day, Wednesday! And this is a special one folks, not least of which because SCU are defending their AEW World Tag Team Championships! We’ve got ourselves a title match on a boat here ladies and gentlemen! Yes, this match comes to us from all the way out in the ocean, the Jericho Cruise itself! The show is a half hour away as of this article being published, so let’s get into the big matches on tap for tonight!
(Reminder: This show was pre-taped yesterday and thus spoilers abound. Even our beloved Overtimer has spoiled the proceedings, so be on the lookout! Or rather, try not to look out too much…? You know what I mean.)
AEW World Tag Team Championships: SCU (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) (c) vs. Kenny Omega & Hangman Page
It’s not every day you get to watch a title match take place out on the sea, but that’s what we have in store here tonight! It’s a big bout here on Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N Wrestling Rager Part Deux: Second Wave, an event that looks likely to become an AEW tradition! The third one has already been announced for next year, and apparently this time AEW Dynamite’s gonna be airing live!
But let’s not get a whole 12 months ahead of ourselves here… we’ve got tonight to tackle! And this is a big match to be sure. SCU (SoCal Uncensored) have been pretty stalwart champions since winning that tag team tournament to crown the inaugural tag team champs. And that’s a big thing considering it’s All Elite Wrestling, where tag teams have never been a bigger deal. The division is a deep one, only strengthened by Kenny Omega and Hangman Page’s recent inclusion. Even if the two of them have seemingly never been on the same page!
Never the less, they both wanna be champions. And so they’re working through their issues to go for the gold here tonight. Hangman has been trying to distance himself from the Elite for months now. But he’s been continually booked alongside Omega anyway for quite some time.
I think it’s fair to say that SCU have a ways left to go in their tag title reign and while Omega and Page would be great champs, no shame in losing to them whatsoever, it really doesn’t appear to be the direction in the slightest. So I’m gonna say SCU retains.
