Normally, when there is activity that there are large land animals in area, it’s best to just avoid the area if possible. If you don’t need to be there, stay away because rhinos, bears, moose, elephants, and bison value their territory.
Colorado Springs Man GORED and Tossed 10 Feet into the Air by Bison at Yellowstone National Park – Second Attack This Year
That brings us to a story from Yellowstone National Park where sometimes tourists can end up being too close to wildlife when wildlife simply shows up. In the case, a 34-year-old man and his family were a bit too close resulting in the bison gored one person.
The family were walking on a boardwalk located near Old Faithful’s Giant Geyser. Apparently, that was close enough to the bull bison to agitate it. The beast would rush at the man and his family, knocking over a child and the man. Following this, the bull bison gored the man and tossed him, leaving injuries into his arm.
A spokesperson for Yellowstone National Park said that this is the second time that not only was a visitor gored but also chucked 10 feet into the air.
Park reps say this is the second time this year a visitor got too close to a bison and was not only gored, but also tossed 10 feet into the air. The first incident occurred in May where an Ohio woman got within ten feet of the bison and was also gored 10 feet. The 25-year-old received treatment for her puncture wounds.
Park officials would remind visitors of park regulations and advise that they know how far they are from a large wild animal:
“Stay more than 25 yards away from all large animals—bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes—and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves. If need be, turn around and go the other way to avoid interacting with a wild animal in proximity.”
