Last night at Money in the Bank, we saw the power that the Money in the Bank contract grants a performer. Liv Morgan opened the show by winning a ladder match to claim the contract for a match for either the RAW or Smackdown Women’s Championship, and despite saying she’d wait for WrestleMania? She’d cash in later that night. Ronda Rousey was left vulnerable after her match with Natalya, and Morgan took advantage to become champion.
Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey Set For Summerslam?
However, as incredible of a moment as it was to finally see Liv Morgan as champion – it could end up being short lived. This is due to expected plans for Summerslam on July 31st putting Morgan in a rematch against Ronda Rousey. Dave Meltzer would report the following on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.
“Right now the plan is Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, which kind of surprises me in a lot of ways. They didn’t leave with any heat. I mean, Ronda just hugged her, walked out of the ring, let her have her moment. It is interesting, though, because I think almost everybody figured it would be Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam and it’s not.”
If this match happens, it will be the biggest match of the career of Liv Morgan – which sadly would come with a high chance of her first reign as Smackdown Women’s Champion coming to an end barely a month after it began. However, if Morgan is able to enter a show the scale of Summerslam and defeat Rousey? She’d become one of the biggest stars in the division – hopefully for years to come.
WWE is in dire need of new stars in their women’s division, and have been handed a chance on a golden platter here. Morgan has been a fan favorite for years, and was just lacking some big wins. WWE gave her two last night, and just need to keep in that direction. Ronda Rousey is someone who truly doesn’t need a championship to be legitimate in WWE – and with her feud against Charlotte Flair far from over, it might be best to keep gold away.
