After years of effort, Aaron Henare has finally been able to enter the field of the G1 Climax. Joining The United Empire helped him boost his position in NJPW, and now he’s got a chance to take down a man who once served as his mentor. Hiroshi Tanahashi is entering his 21st tournament, and has won four times, in 2007, 2013, 2015 and 2018. He would team with Henare during some World Tag League tournaments, where Henare learned a lot from, and about the ace. That knowledge could be key for a victory here tonight.

Aaron Henare Throws His Weight Around

They’d lock up in the middle of the ring, with Tanahashi getting the headlock. Henare would be able to fight free using a handful of hair, before taking Tanahashi to the corner for some heavy punches. Tanahashi would fight back after being thrown across the ring, and would hit the crossbody.

Henare would respond with a crossbody roundhouse kick, before mocking the air guitar taunt of Tanahashi by smashing it. Tanahashi would be snapped down to the mat and kicked in the spine. Henare would hit the superman punch as Tanahashi took a knee before tying up the knees of Tanahashi for a modified Camel Clutch.

Tanahashi would try to fight free, but was stomped down to the mat for a two count. Henare would be dropped with the flying forearm from Tanahashi, before the sommersault senton. Slingblade would be blocked with a lariat, only for Henare to take a shot to the jaw.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Walks The Streets Of Rage

He’d block another slingblade attempt with Berzerker Bomb, before hitting the Justice Knee in the corner before a Samoan Drop for a two count. Ultima would be applied, but Tanahashi would block the hands from going together.

Tanahashi would fight to hit the Twist & Shout, and followed with another before a ripcord slingblade for a two count. Aces High would land, before Tanahashi would call for High Fly Flow. Henare would be able to get the knees up at the last possible second, and that counter would almost set up the Rampage Tackle.

Tanahashi would block, before being planted with the spinebuster. Ultima would be fully applied this time, right in the middle of the ring. A valiant fight from Tanahashi would follow, and Henare would let it go for Streets Of Rage – but Tanahashi fought free. Skull Kick would land, and Streets Of Rage got Henare his first G1 Climax victory in his career.

Could Henare score more upset wins on the way to the G1 Climax finals? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
