In 2021, Kazuchika Okada & Jeff Cobb would control the fate of the A-Block in the G1 Climax. Both men would only drop a single match in their tournament, with Okada losing to Tama Tonga, while Cobb only fell to Okada himself – who went on to win the tournament.

However in 2022, they will kick off the A-Block, and could claim an incredibly important tiebreaker in the process. With a maximum total of 12 points possible in this tournament, every match is more important than ever before – meaning a win here for one of these titans could determine how this block goes, if 2021 is any indication.

    Jeff Cobb Has Monstrous Power

Cobb would power Okada to the ropes as the bell rang, but allowed the clean break. Okada would be sent out to the floor, but would be able to slip back into the ring. Cobb would absorb some shoulder tackles, before catching a leapfrog attempt into a Fallaway Slam – sending Okada tumbling out to the floor.

Some heavy blows to the back would be followed by a toss into the barricade, nearly sending Okada into the commentary teams alongside the barricade itself. Back in the ring, Okada was used as a surfboard – 280lbs right on the back. A vertical suplex would get a two count, Okada already showing signs of difficulty on kicking out.

Okada would try and block the next suplex, and would hit the DDT. Running back elbow would take Cobb down for a second time, as Okada starts to gain some control of this match. Cobb would run in with a lariat, and would be taken down with a flapjack. Money Clip was applied, but Cobb broke free.

Out on the floor, Okada would try to hit the Big Boot, before almost falling to a Capture Suplex. Okada would think quickly, and hit the DDT on the floor. The big air raid crash neckbreaker in the ring would get a two count. German Suplex was set, but Cobb avoided before nailing a dropkick on Okada.

    Never Bet Against Kazuchika Okada

SpinCycle would send Okada across the ring, and to the apron. Cobb tried to take him over the ropes with a superplex, but Okada stalled on the top rope – only to take a dropkick and super gutwrench suplex – sending boards in the ring popping up on impact!

Standing moonsault would follow, before Okada was taken up to his feet. Shotgun dropkick would land, but Okada was unable to set up the tombstone. Cobb meanwhile nailed one, and wanted to hit a second – only to take the spinning variat.

Money Clip was blocked, before Okada hit the backbreaker and applied the hold. He’d let it go in favour of a bodyslam, before hitting a top rope elbow drop. Rainmaker Pose was struck, but Cobb would block with elbow smashes before taking a dropkick.

Cobb would hit an AlohaMaker, but was unable to make the pinfall afterwards. Okada & Cobb would trade forearm smashes, before Tour of The Islands was blocked. Spinning Rainmaker landed, but Cobb blocked the next attempt with a headbutt.

Okada hit the Inoki Enziguri, Cobra Twist Style Emerald Flowsion, and capped it off with a rainmaker to claim his first two points of the tournament. What a match.
