Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly glad that Meghan Markle was not present at Prince Philip’s funeral.
Queen Was Happy To See The Back Of Meghan When Duchess Of Sussex Missed Philip’s Funeral-‘You Know She Was Glad’
That is according to royal expert Rebecca English. Meghan happened to have skipped the event on the basis that she was pregnant at the time and advised on medical grounds not to fly.
While that may have been the case, Prince Harry decided to arrive solo while his wife recuperated back in the United States.
But by Meghan attending, it could have created a huge spectacle, with more attention being placed on the Duchess of Sussex, as opposed to the funeral. That is why the monarch was glad that the funeral had not become overshadowed.
In her comments, Rebecca said: “You know she was glad that the, kind of, fuss around the day of her husband’s funeral was just a bit more minimal.
“It was only weeks after the Oprah interview. It was quite a raw time for them.” If those comments are taken to be true, then they are significant for the following reasons.
First of all, irrespective of Meghan’s pregnancy, there could have been a chance that she would not have been in attendance anyway. After all, it was the monarch’s husband’s funeral.
Secondly, the timing of the Oprah Winfrey interview could not have made things any worse. It would have been impossible to keep decorum, while having such negative claims about the royals in the public domain.
And looking back, it was probably wise given the reception that Harry and Meghan received during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. They were met by a chorus of boos, as they exited the ‘Service of Thanksgiving’ at St Paul’s Cathedral.
And who is to say that Meghan would not have received a similar welcome had she attend the funeral. But now that it is over, this is not something that the monarch will have to think about.
So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
