Back in 2020, Tetsuya Naito was betrayed when Los Ingobernables De Japon member and close friend EVIL would turn on him, joining BULLET CLUB and taking both the IWGP Heavyweight & Intercontinental Championships from him. A series of emotional matches would follow, and tonight – they meet once again, in the main event of tonight’s G1 Climax action.

EVIL claimed his first two points, while Naito has dropped two matches – and tonight could well take him out of the running. His back is against the wall, and that could make him more dangerous than ever before in this tournament.

It’s Bottom Of The Ninth In Game Seven For Tetsuya Naito Already

EVIL would try to attack before the bell with the STO – but was sent to the floor with an armdrag. Still in his entrance gear, Naito would drive EVIL into the barricade, before looking to undress in the ring. EVIL would grab a steel chair from under the ring, and slid it in to try and distract Naito, before being kept on the floor with a strike before Naito teased a dive.

Naito would let him back in the ring, and would yank the hair of EVIL to take him into the corner, before the corner pad was removed. EVIL would let Naito run into the exposed steel, before sending him to the floor and into the barricade – dropping the ring announcer alongside Naito.

A steel chair would be wrapped around the neck of Naito, before EVIL swung for the fences with another steel chair – and it’s a home run. He’d get back into the ring while Naito would fight back into the ring by the count of eighteen – and would kick out of the pinfall at two. Naito would take a rake to the eyes, before being able to hit the manhattan drop and basement dropkick.

EVIL was taken into the corner for the sweep dropkick, before Naito struck one of his signature poses. Neckbreaker would be avoided, and EVIL scampered out to the floor to take a breath. On the floor, Naito would show EVIL what the chair homerun spot feels like, while Dick Togo distracted the referee. Turnabout’s fair play, and all that.

EVIL & Dick Togo Have Bad Intentison

After breaking the referees twenty count, EVIL would take this back to the floor – and again would topple the timekeeper by driving Naito into the barricade. Darkness Scorpion was applied in the ring, but Naito would be able to get the bottom rope. EVIL held until the count of four, knowing the referee wasn’t gonna throw out such an important G1 Climax match.

Darkness Falls would land on Naito, who was just able to kick out at two. The dropkick to the face of EVIL would land, before Naito would go for Esperanza – and EVIL sent him down to the floor. Dick Togo would set up a table, and EVIL intended to hit Darkness Falls through the table. Instead, he was thrown into the barricade and flipped over.
In the ring, EVIL took some downward elbow smashes to the neck – Naito softening him up for Destino. Naito would run and nail it, before only getting a two count. EVIL would drive Naito into the referee, before nailing the Low Blow. Togo & EVIL would look for Magic Killer off the apron and through the table – which might end more than just the match.

Tetsuya Naito Risks It All For Two Points

Naito would be able to counter and hit a low blow on EVIL through the ropes, before looking for the piledriver off the apron through the table – and got all of it. Neither man would feel good after that, but EVIL was the one who landed head first, as the table exploded underneath.

Back into the ring, EVIL was rocked – and nailed with Esperanza. Destino would be set, but EVIL was able to drive the bloody back of Naito into the exposed steel corner. Running Destino was attempted, but EVIL nailed a stiff lariat for the near fall. Naito would hit the swing DDT and Valentia, before finally nailing Destino in the middle of the ring for the victory.

Following the match, Naito had the following to say in backstage comments: ” I started with two losses, but it ends in Aichi. Now I’m 1-2. I don’t know what the standings are, but it still looks tough for me. The situation is negative but I’m not negative. All I see is winning out. I’m so positive it makes me sick.”

Can Tetsuya Naito make the comeback run of the tournament? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
