During last years G1 Climax, Tomohiro Ishii would meet the Great-O-Khan in a singles match – and won without much trouble. Now, with a years experience and some championship experience for Great-O-Khan, he will look to redeem that loss – as he looks to break a losing streak in the tournament against the Stone Pitbull himself. Ishii similarly has his back against the wall, with a max score of eight points in a stacked B-Block possible.
Tomohiro Ishii & Great-O-Khan Give Their Best Blows
Great-O-Khan would quickly take this match down to the mat, going right for an armbar – but Ishii got his feet on the ropes. Ishii was better prepared for the next sprawl on the mat, and was able to come out on top – before shooting for a single leg takedown on Great-O-Khan and being blocked. Ishii would again have that arm targeted, but he’d move into a rear waist lock.
Great-O-Khan would be run down with a shoulder tackle, before taking a heavy handed chop from Ishii. German Suplex would be attempted by Great-O-Khan, before Ishii looked to get the heel hook in. Great-O-Khan would block into a kneebar attempt, before Ishii would trap the leg again – but couldn’t get the tap out.
Both men would rise to their feet and exchange forearm smashes, with Ishii moving to more powerful blows before being dropped. Great-O-Khan would follow with a dropkick before the Sheep Killer was applied. Ishii fought free, and chucked Great-O-Khan with a tight German Suplex. Dragon Suplex would follow, before Ishii uncorked a stiff lariat that’d make Stan Hansen blush.
Great-O-Khan Finally On The Board, Ishii Gets Eliminated From The Tournament
Vertical Drop Brainbuster would be blocked, before Great-O-Khan set up the Sheep Killer with a backbreaker. Eliminator would be attempted, but Ishii slipped free – nailing a headbutt below the jaw of Great-O-Khan. Tenzan Tombstone Driver would be the response – before the Eliminator brought Great-O-Khan his first two points of the tournament.
Had Great-O-Khan lost here, he would have basically been out of the running. However, his odds of making the finals remain low – with a web of tiebreakers needed to get him there – and a win over Jay White perhaps being essential. That match comes next for O-Khan, as he meets White on August 6th. Meanwhile, this result means Ishii is out of the running for the B-Block, the first man eliminated from the tournament. He will wrestle his final two block matches, but can’t possibly make the finals.
