Mike Tyson has no hair on his tongue. Especially when you step on his nerves. And Hulu, the streaming service platform did exactly this. They announced a new 8-episode series based on Mike Tyson’s life, whilst not including him in the making of it. According to the service platform, the premiere of the series should be on the 25th of August.
Hulu announced that they will film such a series back in 2021. When Iron Mike heard the news he wasn’t happy at all and did not approve of the unauthorized series.
Mike Tyson Not Happy About Hulu’s Series Based On His Life – ‘I’m Not A N***** You Can Sell On The Auction Block’
“Hulu’s announcement to do an unauthorized mini-series of the Tyson story without compensation, although unfortunate, isn’t surprising.” – Tyson slams the platform back in 2021. “This announcement on the heels of social disparities in our country is a prime example of how Hulu’s corporate greed led to this tone-deaf cultural misappropriation of the Tyson life story.”
Now, after a year and a half, the series is shot, produced, and set to air. Hulu released a trailer, and Tyson in particular, is not so excited to see it.
“Hulu tried to desperately pay my brother Dana White millions without offering me a dollar to promote their slave master take over a story about my life.” – Mike Tyson said. “He turned it down because he honors friendship and treating people with dignity.”
“I’ll never forget what he did for me just like I’ll never forget what Hulu stole from me.” – Tyson wrote on Twitter. “Hulu stole my story. They’re Goliath and I’m David. Heads will roll for this.”
“Hey, Hulu I’m not a n***** you can sell on the auction block #SlaveryIsOver #FuckHulu. Hulu’s model of stealing life rights of celebrities is egregiously greedy #HeadsWillRoll.”
While Tyson is completely right about what he claims, the production and the release of the movie are expected to proceed uninterrupted. To be honest, it is strange how someone can steal someone else’s life story and monetize it without having any permission to do so. Furthermore, without inviting or asking him about certain topics shown in the movie.
Mike Tyson is a former heavyweight boxing champion and as such has a rich life story that most certainly will be of public interest once put into a book, movie, or series.
What do you think? Is it real that Mike Tyson did not get anything from the author? Is it legal to film a series about someone’s life and not implement him into the core team for development? In the end, it is he who lived through the filmed moments. His input will make them as authentic as possible.
