It’s that day again… that’s right, it’s Wednesday night and that means we’ve reached the peak of our wrestling week! Tonight, Ortiz reps Le Champion Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle against Jon Moxley! It’s AEW Dynamite once again this evening! I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and for about half a year now, I’ve been giving you the deep coverage on every major weekly wrestling program! That means a live recap and results of the show, moments after the segments conclude! Plus, previews of everything that’s been announced thus far! We have some major things of note tonight, so let’s get to ’em!
Ortiz vs. Jon Moxley
You can see where this is going, right? Mox is running a bit of a gauntlet right now. The current No. 1 Contender to AEW World Champion Chris Jericho took down Sammy Guevara in a really good match two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite. Now, he faces another member of the Inner Circle in Ortiz, one half of Proud-N-Powerful. Funnily this actually comes as a result of him nailing the Double Arm DDT on him during his brawl with the Inner Circle last week.
Odds are pretty good a one-on-one match with his partner Santana is in the works between now and AEW Revolution as well. And after that, well, we’d still theoretically have the time… perhaps a surprise debut for Jake Hager?! I mean if you’re looking at it from Chris Jericho’s perspective, it’d certainly be worth the try. What better way to soften him up than to sic the Big Hurt on him?
But that’s down the line. For tonight, we have one wild, slightly unstable brawler going up against another. This should be equal parts physical and showboating as Ortiz is often noted as the more over-the-top of his tandem with Santana. I’d expect nothing less than a good scrap – likely one where Ortiz targets Mox’s eye with those tiger claws of his. Incidentally, for those unaware, Moxley has taken selling his eye injury pretty seriously. He even works in the eyepatch when he goes over to New Japan now. Gotta dig the dedication.
Anyway, this should be fun but obvious enough who takes it, right? Jon Moxley will assuredly defeat Ortiz, though he’s likely to face the wrath of the Inner Circle again, with Santana in particular likely to target him.
