It’s always interesting to watch how fans react to different companies, and two that are regularly lambasted as not being good enough are Impact Wrestling and the NWA.
Sure, neither one are near their previous glory in popularity but it’s never a fast process in turning things around unless a company can catch lightening in the bottle.
Impact Wrestling and NWA are Different Breeds
While Impact Wrestling is firmly entrenched as the third top wrestling company in the United States, NWA is currently looking to rebound following the pandemic and rebuilding the company.
The WWE releasing talent for budgetary reasons helped a lot of the Indie companies, but few more than Impact Wrestling as they signed a few big names but mainly relied on mid carders to help them grow.
The NWA has been quieter, but the reason for that is mainly economic just as with any company.
Like everyone else, they have a plan in place to return and it’ll take some time to see if it works out.
Quick fix isn’t in the cards
One way to drastically improve a company is an infusion of talent, and Billy Corgan recently said during an interview with Chris Van Vliet.
They talked about a variety of topics, and one of them were the reason Corgan hasn’t been making a lot of moves in the free agent market. Special thanks to Wrestlingnews.co for the transcript.
“We’ll get there. It just doesn’t work economically for us in those cases. There are cases where we do have talent under contract, and it is important that those talents are under contract, but overall, like, the minute somebody comes out of WWE, okay, well, the chances are you’re probably not going to outbid the other people in the market who are interested.
So those talents are not necessarily calling me to ask whether I want to pay, and I’m not necessarily calling them to try to compete with somebody who’s got more resources than I do and obviously a bigger platform. I don’t see that as competitive in that sense. I think qualitatively it’s competitive, but I’m not competitive on the free agent market at this time. I think when we’re able to get a bigger platform and get more resources, then hopefully we’ll start getting those calls.”
It’s understandable why they aren’t going after everyone that’s released or available, and because of that they’re often maligned.
Because of that, companies like NWA and Impact Wrestling have seen fans turn on them for not choosing not to compete with the WWE or sell to them or AEW.
For many, bigger is better and anything else is a waste, often citing ratings when many shows are either on niche networks and rely mainly on social media views and streaming, often with subscription or membership fee to watch.
Since the latter numbers are often unavailable, it’s easy to ignore them or make assumptions to make them seem less desirable to others.
For fans in general, they offer a fun alternative to WWE and AEW, but for die hard fans of either company, well, social media speaks for itself. We all have our favorites, so let us know which wrestling company you like the most in the comments below.
