Carmelo Hayes was sick of being disrespected and not even being considered for Worlds Collide – that he was happy to sit home as NXT North American Champion. However, when Ricochet came out on NXT 2.0 and challenged him – claiming to not only be on the level of Hayes but above it. He’s looking to take that NXT North American Championship with him to Smackdown Live, and prove that he’s truly the One & Only – while Hayes is just a nobody. With this match kicking the show off, everyone will need to step their games up to not let them steal the show.
The One & Only vs. The A-Champion
They’d lock up hard in the middle of the ring, with Hayes forcing Ricochet to the ropes. A quick armdrag would send Hayes rolling, before Hayes would get a side headlock takedown. They’d battle for control on the mat, but it just led to an athletic stalemate.
Ricochet would hit the flying headscissor takedown, before a picture perfect dropkick to the face. Some running chops would follow, before a soccer kick to the spine. Ricochet would send Hayes to the floor, and had a moment to breathe before catching Hayes in a headlock.
Hayes would shove Ricochet out to the floor, where Trick Williams tried to run a distraction – but Ricochet had their tricks well scouted. He’d use the barricade to set up a chop, before Hayes would be thrown into the ring. An enziguri would rock Ricochet upon returning to the ring – but only got a one count.
Hayes would keep the pressure on and hit the scoop slam, before finding a moment to taunt. Ricochet would try and fire up, but was absolutely rocked with a superkick – bringing a near fall to the reigning champion.
Carmelo Hayes Survives To Reign Another Day
Hayes would size Ricochet up in the corner, but would lose control. Ricochet would look for the back handspring, only for Hayes to hit the perfectly timed springboard lariat. Facebuster would be blocked, with Ricochet rolling through and hitting a double stomp.
Both men hit the ropes and sprung off for big lariats, and collided in the middle of the ring. Ricochet would hit some quick strikes, before rocking him with the big enziguri. The Pele Kick would be blocked, and Hayes would go for a brainbuster. Ricochet blocked but took a throat chop. Ricochet would hit the Recoil, and Trick Williams had to pull Hayes under the ropes to save the match.
Williams would be taken out with a wrecking ball dropkick, but in the ring – Hayes would take control and hit a suplex cutter for a two count. Hayes went up top, and Ricochet quickly met him up there for a superplex. They’d trade heavy blows in the middle of the ring, with Hayes nailing a massive Codebreaker for a near fall.
Ricochet caught Hayes whining, and got a quick pinfall attempt to nearly steal the match. Hayes would try to head to the top rope , only to get spiked with a poisonrana. Williams got involved again and took another dropkick, before Ricochet would miss with the shooting star press – and Hayes got the cradle pin for the victory.
