Prince Andrew, Duke of York recently led the royal family in mourning the death of his mother and symbol of the UK and the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral.
It was seen as a surprise considering the level of negative publicity he gets and brings to the royal family. It’s like the black sheep of a family giving a eulogy at a beloved family member’s funeral.
There seems to be a belief that now that his brother is King Charles III, time could be up for him and his unsavory business and associations.
Is Time Up for Prince Andrew Now that Queen Elizabeth II Has Died and King Charles III Heads Up the Royals?
The abridged version of Prince Andrew’s issues involves allegations of associating with Jeffrey Epstein—which is just closed-car-with-gas-fumes material off the bat—allegations of racism in Buckingham Palace, allegations of sexual assault, and arms trading.
There’s also being an ass towards servants in Buckingham Palace, getting into a special society for scientists with no background or accomplishments in the sciences, some…problematic close associations with the leaders of countries which clash with the UK’s interests as well as the interests of a couple of the UK’s allies, and his debt and spending habits.
This is all over a couple of years as most of this stuff is relatively recent but it came out in waves. His streak of controversy really makes Prince Harry and Meghan’s social faux pas and clashing with the royal family look tame.
You could say “Give them some time and they will catch up” but Prince Andrew is pacing them hard and he hasn’t even needed to hydrate with orange slices and water yet.
It also took some of the heat off the King’s past dalliances and the controversy surrounding Princess Diana’s death.
The feeling might be that King Charles III has no grounds to check Prince Andrew on his controversies but “international corruption” and paling around with questionable international figures trumps the desire to be a box of tampons or lamenting about being a flushed as a tampon by future wife number two.
So, will King Charles III strip Prince Andrew of his titles? He didn’t have the power to do it then when it should’ve been done and I can see the thought being along the lines of “Oh, Andy’s got to go. He’s going to draw attention to everyone else’s closets of skeletons.”
However, it really depends on what the Queen’s last wishes were in regard to family business and if King Charles III will respect them–whatever they were. Ultimately, it could be an issue kicked down the road to Prince William if King Charles doesn’t check Prince Andrew’s activities.
