Daniel Cormier made a bold statement that it may be time for Tony Ferguson to retire from MMA after his loss to Nate Diaz at the UFC 279. He said that Tony Ferguson lacks the self-awareness to retire. Now Tony Ferguson replied to the ‘call for retirement’ beautifully.
According to Daniel Cormier DC, Tony Ferguson is on a constant fall in his career since he fought Justin Gaethje back at UFC 249. Taking into consideration that this comes from a UFC Hall of Famer and a former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion the statement has some ‘weight’.
Tony Ferguson Tells Daniel Cormier That He Is Not Ready To Retire – ‘I’m Not A Quitter!’
Ferguson has had more than 20 fights in the UFC until now. He had a 12-win streak until 2020 when he met Gaethje. He was undefeated for more than 6 years and took two fights per year ever since. As such, of course, Daniel Cormier’s comments triggered him and he replied to him in El Cucuy’s own fashion. Ferguson had an interview with Brett Okamoto and he used the opportunity to reply to DC.
“When I feel like I’m ready to retire, I will retire. But right now it’s a little bit different, a little bit more interesting.” – Ferguson said to Brett Okamoto. “DC and all these commentators that just keep repeating the same s**t in the past couple of years. That’s what they want me to do.
They want the public eye to see me like that and they want to see me as a quitter. So on and so forth. I never cheated to get on the scales to retain my championship like DC, hashtag ‘towel gate,’ these guys grabbing the towel, trying to lift some pounds off the scale. The UFC (was) right there, they went with it. It’s like an inside job.”
“This guy wants to call it out, I’m going to call you right back out. You don’t have to be an asshole. Especially to the people who actually work hard.” – El Cucuy slammed Daniel Cormier at his soft spot. “There’s a lot of up-and-coming fighters that see that sh*t.
They’re going to try and go with the clique and that’s it. So don’t start that sh*t. I’ve literally given my shirt off my back to the fans. Same thing with the UFC, and I’ll still take my shirt off to go inside that f*****g Octagon and show that I’m the f*cking man. I’m still the f*cking champ.”
What’s next for Ferguson? Who will he fight next and does he have what it takes to overturn his losing streak?
