The decision to include the children, as part of the funeral ceremony, was always going to be a contentious one, especially since they were still young. And yet, that did not prevent Charlotte being joined by her elder brother Prince George.
But for all the good intentions, there was always a risk that things could have been overwhelming for her. And that is precisely what happened as Charlotte burst into tears.
In the pictures here, we can see that Charlotte is crying as she is being comforted by her mother. But she was not the only person that got emotional, though.
The same was said for Charles III and even Meghan Markle allegedly had tears on her face despite her differences with the Royal Family. Nevertheless, it is important to bear in mind the following factors.
First of all, George and Charlotte were part of the late Prince Philip’s memorial service. Therefore, regardless of what you may think of the decision to bring them to the late monarch’s funeral, they did have some experience of a similar event.
Secondly, it did give them an opportunity to say goodbye. And in any event, the decision to not have them there could have also raised further questions. The fans on social media, though, made their position clear.
A certain subset of people slammed the decision to put the children through this. One person wrote: “I’m such a good parent as well as exposing my children to a state funeral at a young age.
“I’m also putting my daughter right in front of her alleged bully or did I make that up?” Now that the funeral is over, the family will have an opportunity to heal.
