Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly heartbroken when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to leave the Royal Family in 2020.
Queen Elizabeth II Was ‘Very Hurt’ By Harry And Meghan’s Departure From The Royal Family
That is the view of royal expert Katie Nicholl in her book entitled: “The New Royals.” The Sussexes made the decision to live a life overseas which resulted in them settling down in Montecito, California alongside their two children: Archie and Lilibet.
While that may have been the case, it seems the late monarch was left hurt by virtue of the fact that she would not be able to see her grandchildren.
And so was the case, as the Sussexes made limited appearances to the UK, with Queen Elizabeth II only seeing them rarely: case in point, her meeting with Lilibet at the Platinum Jubilee.
Not only that, but reports also indicated that Harry and Meghan turned down the opportunity to visit Balmoral in order to see her prior to her passing.
And given that she ultimately passed away without seeing Harry reconcile with the family, in particular his brother Prince William and father King Charles III, Queen Elizabeth II left knowing that her family was not united.
As source confirmed the following: “The monarch confided to her that she was exhausted by the decision, with Queen Elizabeth II expressing that she was very hurt and that she didn’t care anymore, as she just wanted to stop thinking about it.”
The fans on social media did not have a positive view of the Sussexes. A certain subset of people were of the view that too much damage had been done.
One person wrote: “It’s impossible to forgive H & M for the sadness, hurt and stress they caused the Queen in the last days of her glorious reign.”
It is fair to say that the Sussexes will have a lot to do before they get back into the good books of the royals after everything that has happened.
