Jason Calacanis offered himself to act as the CEO of Twitter after Musk buys the social media company. People know Jason Calacanis as an entrepreneur, investor, and even podcaster. He is famous for taking part in the dot-com bubble in New York with his first company, following which he rose to wealth. The dot-net era or the dot-net bubble is a period in the 90s when companies marked a massive growth, or jump in value after incorporating and using the internet.
What we didn’t know until now is that he is a friend of Elon Musk. So close in fact, that they are exchanging messages and calls on a daily basis.
Jason Calacanis Asked Elon Musk To Appoint Him As The New Twitter CEO After Acquisition
Of course, when Jason Calacanis heard about Elon Musk’s plans to obtain Twitter, he couldn’t resist and not slide into his DMs. He started off the conversation jokingly by stating that Musk should probably up the offer to $54.21, or ‘the perfect counter’ as he says.
“You could easily clean up bots and spam and make the service viable for many more users — removing bots and spam is a lot less complicated than what the Tesla self-driving team is doing.” – Calacanis flatteringly wrote. “And why should blue check marks be limited to the elite, press, and celebrities? How is that democratic?”
Despite Elon Musk not asking for it, Calacanis continued to ‘offer’ additional advice to him. He advocated that what Twitter needs is ‘good cleaning’ and suggested Musk cuts more than half of the workforce in order to make the company’s revenue math ‘more favorable’. His suggestion includes recruiting MrBeast for making original video and implementing monetizable video content for all Twitter users.
This, according to Calacanis would be a major breakthrough as it will improve the revenue of the company massively. He suggested not taking anything from video creators until they reach the first $1 million, then splitting the revenue.
“Day zero. Sharpen your blades boys. 2 days a week Office requirement = 20% voluntary departures.” – Calacanis’ message reads. “These dipshits spent a year on Twitter Blue to give people exactly… Nothing they want!”
After the series of messages, Elon Musk asked his friend if he would like to take part in Twitter as a strategic advisor. Jason Calacanis’ answer is nothing less than a proper oath. “Board member, advisor, whatever… you have my sword.” – Calacanis swore. “Put me in the game coach! Twitter CEO is my dream job.”
Since April, many things have changed. The friendship between these two seems to be fading away as well.
“What is going on with you marketing an SPV to randos? This is not ok.” – Musk wrote to Calacanis in May. “Morgan Stanley and Jared Birchall think you are using our friendship not in a good way.”
Seems like Jason Calacanis’ plans will not realize. Musk is trying to get out of the deal, and their communication seems to have worsened over time.
