Two men have been charged by the police as they assaulted a heckler that targeted Prince Andrew during Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin procession in Edinburgh.
Two Men Charged For Assaulting Prince Andrew’s Heckler
According to reports, a 22-year-old man had heckled Andrew which may have been in relation to his sexual assault scandal involving Virginia Giuffre. This resulted in the young man being arrested for a breach of peace, as he is set to attend court.
But as part of that process, it is claimed that two other men assaulted the heckler as the man was shown to have fallen on the ground.
In an official statement on behalf of Police Scotland, a representative said the following: “Two men, both 34, have been arrested and charged in connection with assault following an incident on the Royal Mile on September 12.
“A report will be sent for the consideration of the fiscal.” This was a touchy incident, especially since it touched up on a very fundamental right of protesting.
Some may argue that the heckler overstepped the mark since it was being done during a very difficult period for Andrew. After all, his mother had passed away. Meanwhile, others may state that the right to protest is a fundamental right that should be cherished at all times.
A spokesman on behalf of the National Police Chiefs’ Council had this to say: “We know some people want to protest on a range of issues during this time of national mourning, and officers must balance these rights against those who wish to grieve and reflect.”
The fans on social media had a lot to say about the matter. A certain subset of people felt that Andrew should have been subjected to that scrutiny in light of this prior conduct.
One person wrote: “The two teletubbies should have been arrested and charged on the day ! Why did it take PC Plod so long to arrest them. Blatant assault on a protester against Andrew the no**e.”
