Wardlow is ready to be taken seriously as the TNT Champion, and he won’t get there without some tough competition. He gets that tonight, as ‘The Machine’ Brian Cage returns to AEW Dynamite. Cage has been in a state of limbo with AEW over the past two years, more pencilled into plans for Ring of Honor – which seemed to go up in smoke. Tonight, he looks to remind everyone why he should be a top guy in AEW – and become the TNT Champion in the process.
Brian Cage Matches The Power And Aggression Of Wardlow – FTR & Samoa Joe Make Post Match Save Against The Embassy
Cage would force Wardlow into the corner, hitting some shoulder tackles. Wardlow would hit some of his own, before both men would clash in the middle of the ring with some lariats. Right hands would be thrown in the middle of the ring, before Wardlow hit a running hurricanrana.
Cage came back with a flying headscissor and an attempt at the 619 – but was caught into a slam. Powerbomb would be set, but Prince Nana running a distraction allowed Cage to block into a sit out Alabama Slam.
The pump kick into the corner was followed by a Fallaway Slam, Cage looking fantastic in his return to TV. Wardlow would try and fight to his feet, but would take a pump kick to the face. Jumping knee would follow, before Wardlow came out of the corner with Whisper In The Wind.
Back on the offensive, Wardlow would hit a set of German Suplexes, followed by a Northern Lights Suplex. Wardlow would head to the top rope for a Swanton Bomb – but would be hit with a strike, before a deadlight superplex – Cage taking Wardlow from the apron into the ring.
Wardlow would fire back with a spinebuster in the ring, getting a near fall. Cage hit a F5 for a near fall of his own, going blow for blow. A powerbomb on Wardlow was teased, but Wardlow fought free and nailed two headbutts and the burning lariat. Powerbombs would follow, and Wardlow remains the TNT Champion.
After the bell, Gates of Agony would look to help Cage beat Wardlow down – with Samoa Joe making the save. He’d be overwhelmed, but FTR would make the save next – standing with the ROH World Television Champion.
Willow Nightingale Leads Team To Victory – Saraya Is Not Cleared?
This past Friday on AEW Rampage, we’d see Jamie Hayter get a statement victory over Willow Nightingale. Tonight they cross paths once again, as Willow teams up with AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm & Athena to take on Serena Deeb, Jamie Hayter & Penelope Ford in trios action. Getting in the ring with the champ is always big, and Deeb came especially close to claiming the title recently – and could need just one more chance to call herself champion. Before the match, Britt Baker would reveal Saraya is not cleared to wrestle.
Athena would kick things off with Ford, hitting a dropkick after Ford made the dodge. Ford tried to hit a crossbody but was caught in a powerslam for a two count. Athena would be taken into the wrong corner, with Deeb & Hayter holding her in place for a handspring back elbow. Deeb would get a tag alongside Storm, before being booted to the mat.
Hayter & Ford would distract Storm, allowing for Deeb to hit the chopblock. Quick tags would keep the champion cornered, with even Britt Baker getting cheap shots in from ringside. Deeb would hit the dragon screw, before looking to lock in the Indian Deathlock. Athena tried to make the save, but was caught into a suplex.
Willow & Hayter would get tags, with Hayter planted by the spinebuster. Rebel would try and use a crutch at ringside, but Saraya would disarm her and send them running. Back in the ring, Willow got a two count of Deeb with an inside cradle before nailing the pounce.
Ford rushed into the ring and hit the Back Heel Kick, before being hit with The Falling Goddess by Athena. Deeb hit a spear, before Hayter took Storm down with a backbreaker. Ford would nail a cutter on Willow, getting a near fall. Willow would hit the Babe With The Powerbomb – and got the victory. After the bell, Saraya got into a brawl with Baker – before hitting the superkick on Rebel.
