The best part of the WWE Network is their documentary series. With things like WWE 24, The Day Of, and the recent Ruthless Aggression series, we have been spoiled in this regard. There is another coming, and it isn’t one many fans ever expected to see. It will be about Florida Championship Wrestling, a small promotion which served as the WWE developmental system for years. WWE hopefuls would wrestle in a small warehouse to small crowds as they honed their craft. It would be the home of many names known to fans today, such as Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Sheamus, Dean Ambrose, Xavier Woods and more. It is probably best known for what it has become, that being NXT.
Future of WWE: The Story of FCW
The documentary will take an in-depth and behind the scenes look at FCW, as they interview FCW alumni and coaches, along with behind-the-scenes, never-before-seen footage. For fans of NXT, it will be very interesting to see the roots of one of the hottest brands in wrestling today.
There was many fantastic matches to come out of the promotion, namely involving Seth Rollins. He had a fantastic ironman match with Dean Ambrose, as well as a triple threat with Ambrose & Reigns, years before The Shield would exist.
Not Well Regarded
FCW was an important step for many wrestlers, but it is not something many performers look back fondly on. They dealt with poor conditions, had to do all the promotion for shows on their own, and it was a fairly hands off process. While NXT has been at the forefront of WWE for a while, and they have the WWE Performance Center for their stars to train at, FCW had an old wearhouse with three rings. The talent would have to work out at a local gym, and it simply lacked structure. It was a frustrating scenario for many, who came to WWE to chase a dream only to be placed into this outdated training system. This frustration and the vision of Triple H for a grander NXT lead to great change, and the results are on the USA Network every Wednesday evening.
