During NJPW Declaration Of Power 2022, we’d see the newest title in NJPW revealed. The NJPW World Television Championship will be awarded to the winner of a tournament, with the finals coming at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4th, 2023. With 15 minute time limits on matches, this belt was noted as having a ‘fast paced’ style promoted – with a focus on younger talents in the mix. We now know the eight opening matches and sixteen men who will be looking to claim this belt.

The Tournament To Crown The NJPW World Television Champion Starts On October 14th, Ends January 4th

This tournament will start on Friday – October 14th. David Finlay vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Alex Zayne vs. Zack Sabre Jr. are both set for that night. The following night will see YOSHI-HASHI vs. Jeff Cobb, and Aaron Henare vs. EVIL. October 16th will bring SANADA vs. Taichi, and Hirooki Goto vs. KENTA – and finally October 26th brings Ren Narita vs. Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano vs. Great-O-Khan.

While this isn’t exclusively younger names, the likes of Goto, KENTA, Ishii, and Kanemaru are proven veterans capable of working a fast pace. It’s a stacked tournament, and with a match at Wrestle Kingdom 17 awaiting those who make the finals? We can expect everyone to bring their all to every match. A faster pace will make these matches exciting, and matches like Narita vs. Ishii & Zayne vs. ZSJ are especially interesting on paper.

Matches that hit the 15 minute time limit will be decided via a coin flip, meaning the only way to control your fate in this tournament is to claim the fast victory. This should even ensure that EVIL doesn’t lag around in matches – as no one wants to lose their spot by chance. Many are looking at Ren Narita as a favorite to win, with Narita hungry to prove himself following his homecoming at Declaration of Power.

Who do you think will win the NJPW World Television Championship? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
