Jon Moxley Was Working In AEW Without Contract, Jim Ross Feels New Five Year Deal Helps Keep Roster Stable

Throughout 2022, there has only been one constant in the roster of All Elite Wrestling. That is that without fail, Jon Moxley is ready to step up and prove he’s the man in charge. Twice now he’s picked up the AEW World Championship when CM Punk would fail to remain healthy after big matches. Every time Moxley hits the ring, he delivers a great match or promo – and that won’t be changing over the next five years after Moxley signed a new five year deal. Over this time, Jim Ross feels Moxley will keep the roster stable.

Jim Ross Feels Jon Moxley Stabilises The Roster

While speaking on the Grilling JR podcast – Jim Ross would have a chance to speak about Moxley signing this new long-term deal with AEW. Ross would be quoted saying the following.

“I think it’s very stabilising for our roster. He’s our top guy, he’s the champ. So he’s emotionally invested. To sign a five-year deal, at his age, you’re invested. I’m really happy to see that happen.”

This new contract came with some extra exclusive clauses – likely keeping Moxley from working outside shows in the UNited States as often as he did. GCW will be affected by this, as shown by Moxley dropping the GCW World Championship to Nick Gage. New Japan Pro Wrestling will likely be able to use Moxley, given the relationship between NJPW & AEW.

Moxley Was Without A Contract From July To October

Prior to this, Moxley’s AEW deal expired in July. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter would confirm this, saying the following on Wrestling Observe Radio.

“I know his contract expired in July. I thought ‘May came and went and they probably renewed his options or something,’ or he’d re-signed a deal,” but that was not the case.”

Moxley working without a contract left him open to returning to WWE, but he would prove his loyalty to Tony Khan and AEW. It’s hard to fault him on this, as had Moxley returned to WWE – he would not be the top star. He’d remain in a firm #2 spot compared to Roman Reigns. Aside from that, Moxley has been vocal about his issues with WWE following his exit.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
